CAR RADIO: DOES IT MAKE YOU A BETTER AND SAFER DRIVER?

Radio is a permanent fixture in almost all vehicles.  People while driving and riding the car love to listen to music or the broadcasts of news and sports matches. There are individuals who will even upgrade the audio systems of their cars that these are even better than the music players that others listen in their homes. Having these high end car audios does not only increase the maximum volume of the vehicle but the car insurance premium as well.  But owners do not seem to mind that at all.

The question, which has been always asked ever since radio and music players have become standard parts of many vehicles, is how did these affect the driving skills of people? Did car radios made them more efficient drivers or careless ones? Obviously, we all love to have music and radio players in our cars and basing on the observation that no regulations or laws banning music players or car radios have been attempted to be legislated over the decades, one can assume that these are pretty much harmless pieces of car accessory. However, this does not still answer the question.

There are actually studies conducted during the past years that attempted to answer the question. One was by Helen Beh of the Department of Psychology at the University of Sydney, in Australia during the latter part of the 1990’s. The result showed that listening to music played over the car radio, actually aided driver's attention to the road. However, the act also hurt vision to objects on the sides of the road. Basically, the study somehow says that the effect can be both ways.

Storage Techniques to Preserve your Music Collection

Music makes the world go round

I firmly believe that music makes the world go round. Despite the declining trend of how music is being made nowadays, like autotuning and remixing, I still believe in their power to inspire others. As a radio DJ for more than a decade, I have had my fair share of stories about how people turned their life around with music. I can remember a fan who wrote to me a couple of years ago and said “Man, my life was miserable, but after listening to your show and hits for an hour, I felt the need for change and right there, I tried to make something out of myself.” Reading letters like that hits the spot, you know what I mean?

My music collection

Everybody is proud of their music collection, even me. However, I don't mean the MP3's that I stored on my PC. I am referring to my music collection that dates back to Vinyl, 8-Track, Cassettes, and CDs. Collecting them is easy, but storing them is not. I have learned to store my music properly through trial and error, and I have lost a good number of my collection because of the wrong storage solutions. If you have cassettes, 8-tracks, vinyls, and CD's lying around and you want to know how to store them, allow me to share what I learned.
